The Train Wreck That Was The 2021 Met Gala
Updated: Sep 15, 2021
We’d be lying if we expected this year’s Met Gala, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” to celebrate the best of American style. But what we saw last night was downright dispiriting. The absurdly avant-garde looks and social commentary prove the Met Gala has become an entirely farcical affair.
Let’s start with what we liked.

Kaia Gerber: Inspired by Bianca Jaggar’s look in 1981, Gerber won the night in a traditionally glamorous dress by the American designers behind, Oscar de la Renta and Monse. (Photo: Arturo Holmes/MG21 via Getty Images)
Amanda Gorman: Channeled the spirit of the Statue of Liberty in a Vera Wang gown.

Most other stand-outs came from European fashion houses.
